Khan Academy Website

  • Brief description: Khan Academy, modeled after computer gaming, uses YouTube videos to cover a wide range of subjects, including math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. It includes practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. Content covers very basic through highly advanced. Teachers should insure that claimed content is ABE eligible.

MobyMax

MobyMax Website

  • Brief Summary: MobyMax is an online program designed for K-8 schools to offer differentiated learning and fill gaps in student knowledge. It provides beginning literacy instruction for  Pre-Beginning and Beginning ESL learners.
  • Proxy Hours Equivalent/Criteria for Awarding Proxy Hours: Clocktime, as per timeout setting provided by publisher; multiply the amount of clocktime recorded by 1.25, to account for teacher coordination with learner, and round to nearest quarter hour.
  • Proxy Hour Documentation: the Work Time report, which can be found on the Day Tally tab of the Time Summary section of the teacher site.  Click the “Print” button for downloadable options (PDF or spreadsheet). The Proxy Hour Award Formula spreadsheet can be used to calculate the additional .25 time per hour.
  • Prerequisites: Appropriate for all levels of ESL literacy (CASAS 153+). The curriculum ends with 8th grade content, so would not be appropriate for GED preparation or adult diploma programs. It may be appropriate for basic skills/pre-GED students

  • Note on costs: There are both Free and paid Pro versions. The curriculum and basic teacher tools are free, and any teacher can register and use it without purchasing anything.  However, there are additional teacher tools and resources, such as diagnostic testing, printable worksheets, games and badges, etc. available for those who choose to purchase the Pro version - cost is $99/year for an individual teacher or $1,295/year for a school with an unlimited number of teachers.

  • Brief Summary: The mission at ReadTheory.org is to teach every student to read and think critically.
  • Proxy Hours Equivalent/Criteria for Awarding Proxy Hours: Post quizzes completed.
  • Proxy Hour Documentation: This is not a time on task platform. A time allotment of 12 minutes per completed quiz is approved, plus 25%, to account for teacher coordination with learner.  Therefore, when entering in SID, each completed quiz is worth a total of 15 minutes.
  • Prerequisites: Target audience is 2.0 on TABE E to 12.9 on TABE A.  Program uses Grades 1-12 as its parameters.  Prerequisite: CASAS Reading score 201+, TABE Reading score 368+; basic digital literacy skills.  The program uses Lexile levels that are clearly displayed for the students
