Reading Horizons Elevate Approved as DL Platform

Reading Horizons Elevate has been apporoved as a Minnesota distance learning platform for which proxy hours can be collected.

Horizons is an Orton-Gillingham based reading program that teaches students how to read using an explicit, systematic, and multi-sensory approach.   Reading Horizons empowers adult learners with a simple, streamlined approach for learning how to read and improving reading skills using the 42 sounds of the Alphabet, 5 Phonetic skills to determine if vowels are long or short, and 2 decoding skills to help students work with multi-syllable words. In-person Professional development is available to train teachers how to teach reading in a classroom setting or one-on-one.

The program starts with foundational skills and works well with emerging readers or people who are new to the English language, as well as more advanced students.  Reading Horizon assessments are available to determine where to place the student at the start of program – Emerging, Basic, or Accelerated.  The software can also be fully customized to meet the needs of the individual student.

One proxy hour can be claimned per lesson (68 lessons) and 0.5 proxy hour per chapter test (6 chapter tests) for a total of 71 hours. Proxy hours may be claimed retroactive to May 1, 2014.
